RoboCup Junior is a project-oriented educational initiative that supports local and international robotic events for primary and secondary students. The 200 students from across Tuscany were required to design and program their robots to compete against an opposing team of robots by kicking a ball into their designated goal, then dancing and acting.

The RoboCup Junior regional final at Sant’Anna School Biorobotics Institute will be held on March 30 in Pontedera. The May 2017 national competition will be held in Umbria (Foligno) with competing teams coming from across the country. The RoboCup Junior event in Pontedera (from 9.00 am at the Centrum Sete Sois Sete Luas - viale Piaggio) is supported by Great Robotics spinoff, schools network Rete Toscana Scuole - RoboCup Junior, regional authority Ufficio Scolastico Regionale and Pontedera City Council.

17 teams of “robot designers” under age 14 and under age 19 will participate in Rescue, Rescue Maze, Dance and Soccer challenges. Regional champions will be then invited to compete at a national level in Foligno on May 3-6, 2017.

The focus of RoboCup Junior is the development of teamwork skills as well as technical skill and innovation. Students have the opportunity to show evidence of their learning program developed by Sant’Anna School Biorobotics Institute, as project coordinator, Tuscany Region Authority and Tuscany schools network. Educational robotics can teach students engineering and problem-solving skills: students participating in the RoboCup Junior competition will be invited to share their expertise and to think critically about the robots they built.

Students of all ages, parents and friends are invited to enjoy the regional final at Pontedera Biorobotics Institute, on 30 March
