The MeS Laboratory in Europe

MeS in Europa

Europe has chosen the "Target" of the Health Performance Evaluation System to represent the state of health of EU countries.
The report is divided into four main phases:

  • The report "Health at a Glance: Europe", prepared by the OECD, provides a horizontal starting point (latest version of November 2016).
  • The 28 health profiles by country, adapted to the context and specificities of each EU country, assess the strengths and challenges of their respective health systems.
  • An accompanying report, published together with the health profiles by country, draws cross-cutting conclusions, links the political priorities common to the various EU countries, and explores the possibilities of mutual learning.
  • At the end of the two-year cycle, health authorities in EU countries can request voluntary exchanges with experts who have dealt with "The state of health in the EU" to discuss the results and possible policy responses.

Country health profiles provide a brief overview of a population's health status and key risk factors, as well as a brief assessment of each health system's performance in terms of effectiveness, accessibility and resilience. The information contained in each health profile is developed by the OECD and the European Observatory of Healthcare Policies and Systems in cooperation with the European Commission and also includes graphics developed according to the target model of the MeS Laboratory.
