Agricultural Sciences and Plant Biotechnology

Biology, chemistry, economics, environmental engineering, agricultural production technologies; these are some of the disciplines comprising the didactic project of the Study Programme in Agricultural Sciences and Plant Biotechnology.

Now more than ever, agriculture should be understood not only for its productive aspect, but also for its multiple functionality.

This is why there is an increasing need for professionals who are able to connect traditional agricultural businesses with innovation, improving expertise as far as communication and marketing are concerned. A future challenge will be to promote the local environment and the quality (and typicality) of food products while operating in respect of an environmentally friendly and functional agriculture, and not in opposition to environmental resources.

At the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, Honours students follow a supplementary education pathway to the ordinary course that ensures the high quality of their studies. Every aspect of the Honours students' cultural and professional enrichment is tended to, being especially supported by the following:

  • high quality internal courses, continuous interdisciplinary dialogue;
  • exchange programmes with the most prestigious national and international university institutions;
  • conferences and lecture series with special scientific and cultural value;
  • internships with Italian and foreign companies.

Honours Students who decide to study Agricultural Sciences and Plant Biotechnology at the Sant’Anna School of Advaced Studies follow a supplementary education: Honours Courses at the School and a Study Programme at the University of Pisa, where they can choose:

First cycle (Bachelor) programmes: Agricultural sciences (L-25); Viticulture and enology (L-26); Natural and environmental sciences – Curriculum Environment (L-32); Biotechnology (L-2).

Second cycle (Master) programmes: Food biosafety and quality (LM-7, LM-70); Plant and microbe biotechnologies (LM-7); Animal production science and technology (LM-69); Urban green areas and landscape planning and management (LM-69) and Environmental science (LM-75) at the University of Pisa.
