COLLABORATION WITH COMPANIES

The partnership between businesses and the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies may have different objectives and therefore, different operating and contractual procedures.

COMMISSIONED RESEARCH AND EDUCATION

(Contracts for third parties)

In this case, businesses can assign specific research and/or education tasks to the School. These are agreements pertaining to limited time activities and specific technical/educational needs established by the businesses in question. Each year, the School performs this type of research for a total turnover of several million Euros. In some cases, businesses can take advantage of tax breaks or regional incentives.

COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH

(European projects, joint labs, funding PhD scholarships and/or research grants, agreements, framework agreements)

Businesses may be interested in performing research and education activities together with the School for a number of years. Joint labs are one way this can be done, sharing both research lines and PhD scholarships funding. These are long-term agreements that focus on more strategic and/or general type objectives, sharing resources and goals.

USING THE SCHOOL'S INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

(Exclusive and non-exclusive license, transfer, exploitation agreements, option contracts)

Companies interested in using intellectual property rights of the School may enter into agreements concerning patents, trademarks or designs owned by the School. These are transferred or licensed for flat-rate fees and/or royalties and/or technology development contract. Go to the Patents & Licensing page for a list of available patents.

COLLABORATION FOR EDUCATION ACTIVITIES

Agreements may be made to fund scholarships for attending Master courses. In these cases, during the internship period, scholarship recipients work on issues established jointly by the company and the Master course organizers. The list of the School's active Level I and II Master Courses is available in the pertinent department.

Privacy and confidentiality agreements can be made for preliminary meetings evaluating potential joint scientific/technological activities.

The Research Exploitation O.U. offers its support to establish the best forms of collaboration between the School and businesses, especially for the management of Intellectual Property issues, and is available for introductory meetings and to provide more information.
