Master Theses: Distributed Optical Fiber Radiation Sensing (in collaboration with European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN))

The candidate should work in collaboration between the group “Optical Fiber Sensors and Integrated Photonic Subsystems” of the TeCIP Institute at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna and the “Engineering Department Source, target and Interactions (EN-STI)” group at CERN, on the following subjects:

  • 60-Co and CHARM characterization of selected P-doped fibers with optimized Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR) parameters
  • Investigation of special fiber types for distributed dosimetry
  • Engineering requirement definition for distributed fiber optic dosimetry installation at one of the CERN injector

Assegno di Ricerca: Within the development of fiber optics sensor systems for structural health monitoring, the candidate will support the design of analog-to-digital acquisition systems as well as the realization of FPGA architectures for control algorithms and digital post-processing (12 months).

Assegno di Ricerca: Within the development of fiber optics sensor systems for structural health monitoring and smart turbines industrial control, the candidate will support the design and experimental exploitation of optoelectronic systems based on distributed Raman temperature sensors and FBG sensors.
