SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities

SDG 11

Sustainable Development Goal 11 aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. Cities are the heart of economic and social development, but they are also subject to a number of challenges, including congestion, pollution, poverty, and crime.

To achieve this goal, specific targets have been set, including:

  • By 2030, ensure that everyone has access to safe, affordable and adequate housing and basic services.
  • By 2030, reduce the per capita environmental impact of cities, including by paying special attention to waste management and air quality.
  • By 2030, make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
  • Protect and safeguard cultural and natural heritage.
  • Support inclusive and participatory urban and territorial planning, taking into account the needs of all, in particular women, children, persons with disabilities and the elderly.
  • Strengthen global efforts towards sustainable urban development cooperation.
