THE 2017 EUROPEAN RESEARCHERS’ NIGHT IS “BRIGHT” IN TUSCANY. ON FRIDAY 29 SEPTEMBER SANT’ANNA SCHOOL CELEBRATES SCIENCE IN THE STREETS OF PISA AND PONTEDERA
The BRIGHT night on Friday 29 September is Tuscany’s contribution to a Europe-wide celebration of academic research. This year, the BRIGHT initiative sponsored by Pisa universities and research centres: University of Pisa, Scuola Normale Superiore, Sant’Anna School, CNR, INGV and INFN, offers a wide range of activities in Pisa, Pontedera, Calci, Lucca, and Viareggio, as we travel along imaginary underground route connecting the university town of Pisa with its surroundings.
Sant’Anna School offers a broad programme of workshops, talks, live experiments and games across several disciplines of science (Health and Wellbeing, New Technologies, Sustainability, Natural and Cultural Heritage) to be held at Area San Cataldo (CNR and Chemistry Dept.), up to Calci. Researchers and PhD students will discuss with the wider public their latest research. Families will be able to take part in interactive activities and lively talks designed to engage and entertain through science presentations.
Sponsors of the event provide a free shuttle minibus service. The service runs between Area San Cataldo and other venues during the evening-nighttime.
The BRIGHT 2017 event starts at 5.00 pm – at piazza XX Settembre in Pisa. Musical performances by Fantomatik Orchestra and Libero Coro Bonamici, workshops and talks across the university’s libraries, museums and laboratories will bring the scientists to Largo Ciro Menotti and Logge di Banchi, Palazzo Blu, Sant’Anna School and Scuola Normale Superiore. The Cinema Arsenale theatre will engage wider audiences with free screenings.
Scuola IMT Alti Studi Lucca offers talks, debates and events at the Complesso di San Francesco. Informal talks in cafes and other public venues are organised in Viareggio (Villa Borbone) and in Pontedera, (Sant’Anna School Biorobotics Institute and museum “Villa Crastan”).
