The Russian government has chosen the path of war, in defiance of the fundamental norms of international law and endangering the safety of the unarmed civilian population, which will pay the highest price for this wicked choice. The Sant'Anna School and the Scuola Normale Superiore firmly condemn the military aggression launched on February 24, 2022 by Russia against Ukraine through the statement of the Rector Sabina Nuti and the Director Luigi Ambrosio, to share the feelings of the two academic communities, emerged during the joint meeting held a few hours after the news of the aggression (on February 24, 2022), convened to reflect on the attack brought by Russia to Ukraine. It was an event that saw the participation of the Rector of the Sant’Anna School and of the Director of Scuola Normale, the Deans of two academic institutions, the  Professors, Researchers, Students, Administrative Technical Staff and, thanks to the Webex, more than 300 connected users were reached.

We express - underline Sabina Nuti and Luigi Ambrosio - the maximum solidarity to the Ukrainian people and we support unconditionally every attempt to reach a cessation of hostilities, a peaceful resolution of the controversies between the two States and a full reconciliation between the parties. We therefore call on those with political and governmental responsibilities to take an active part in the resolution of the crisis. We consider it decisive that the countries of the European Union take a united position in condemning the aggression and adopting appropriate sanctions against the Russian government. We hope for an active involvement of the United Nations Organization in order to encourage the use of dialoguediplomacy and cooperation among States”.

“We address - conclude Sabina Nuti and Luigi Ambrosio - a thought to the victims of this conflict and their families and express closeness to those who suffer from these senseless acts of violence, aware that war, in addition to tears and devastation, leads only to the defeat of all and everyone”.
