NATIONAL INNOVATION AWARDS: RELIEF PROJECT BY SANT’ANNA SCHOOL INSTITUTE OF BIOROBOTICS WAS THE WINNER OF THE “LIFE SCIENCES” CATEGORY FOR MALE AND FEMALE ENDOURETHRAL SPHINCTER

Researchers of the Biorobotics Institute with their project ‘RELIEF’ won the 2018 National Innovation Award, sponsored by the University of Verona. The project ‘RELIEF’ was the winner of the “Life Sciences” category in the business plan Italy national competition and won the Tuscany best university Startup competition (Start Cup Toscana).

The project ‘RELIEF’ relates to an endo-urethral sphincter developed in partnership with INAIL for treating urinary incontinence. This minimally invasive device is a simple and well-tolerated solution for men and women. “Our project enrolled both male and female subjects. We found the device to be very efficacious in reducing incontinence – said Gioia Lucarini, as the project manager – It can be proposed to patients without distress”.

“Sant’Anna School has won the National Innovation Award for the first time in its history – said Andrea Piccaluga, director of Sant’Anna School Institute of Management and the deputy rector for Technology Transfer - thanks to the Relief project. Obtaining intellectual property, particularly patents, is critical in the field of Life Sciences.
