italian national plan for industry 4.0: SANT’ANNA SCHOOL coordinates the ARTES 4.0 (Advanced Robotics and enabling digital Technologies & Systems 4.0) COMPETENCE CENTRE, a PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP
Officially formed and titled "ARTES 4.0" - Advanced Robotics and enabling digital Technologies & Systems 4.0, the 35 founding members partnership’s goals are to promote and accelerate innovation through public-private partnerships combining technological expertise, research programs, technology transfer and education on advanced robotics and associated enabling technologies.
Through its partnership with Scuola Normale Superiore, Università di Pisa, Università degli Studi di Firenze, Università di Siena, Scuola IMT Alti Studi Lucca, Università Politecnica delle Marche, Università degli Studi di Perugia, Università degli Studi di Sassari, Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, European Laboratory for Non-Linear Spectroscopy, INAIL, Trenitalia, Comau, ESI Italia, Rea Impianti, Idrotherm 2000, Fondazione Don Gnocchi, Confartigianato Vicenza – Digital Innovation Hub, Meccano S.p.A., Fondazione Toscana Life Sciences, CONSEL - Consorzio ELIS per la Formazione Professionale Superiore, Tecnalia, T.I.M.E., Laboratori ARCHA, Pure Power Control, Alleantia, Certema, Mediavoice, Wisense, Stargate Consulting, LK Lab, IDEA SOC. COOP, representing universities, research centers, companies, foundations and small and medium sized enterprises, Sant’Anna School will coordinate programs that include the innovation tools necessary to ensuring economic growth. A new generation of ICT professionals and a new generation of software systems with embedded AI capabilities are considered of utmost importance for the digital transformation of Italy promoted by the Ministry of Economic Development.
Strengthening partnerships with SMEs is considered vital to remain globally competitive and overcome economic crisis. Sant’Anna School and INAIL, as one of the founding member, have been collaborating for health and safety management in the workplace. Their collaborative efforts included integrated management systems approach to worker safety and health together with public policy focused on risk prevention.
The Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) as part of the Toscana Confindustria organization is a supporting member of ARTES 4.0. It aims to connect the Confindustria data across Tuscany within a network to support the development of future digital technology, increase AI knowledge, enhance the customer’s experience in business and ultimately maximize societal benefits.
"ARTES 4.0" partnership is supported by seven regional authorities: Toscana, Marche, Umbria, Lazio, Sardegna, Sicilia, Liguria and Pontedera city council which hosts the headquarters of Artes.

Over the longer-term our ambition is to expand the project towards full Italian enterprises coverage, to rapidly enable workers and innovators to engage with advanced robotic systems, assistive robotics, and VR and AR applications. ARTES 4.0 partners will play a key role in showcasing their latest research and application novelties within the field of robotics, as well as the autonomous mobile robot platforms worldwide”.
