researchers working on project GROWINPRO running PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT event about climate change and zero-carbon economy: monday 9 september in Pisa
The European Union H2020 GROWINPRO public engagement workshop on climate change and sustainable energy will be held in Pisa Sant’Anna School on Monday, September 9 at 2.00 pm. The event, sponsored by EMbeDS Centre of Excellence and the 3CSA joint research centre between Sant'Anna School, Scuola Normale Superiore and Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS di Pavia, brings together academics and policy-makers working on sustainable growth and low-carbon energy sources.
As well as featuring a series of talks from academics, the workshop will include distinguished speakers addressing the most strategic and technical issues facing the zero-carbon economy. Lord Adair Turner, Chairman of Energy Transitions Commission, Senior Fellow at the Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET) and former Chairman of the Climate Change Committee - House of Lords, will have the opportunity to share his experience and ideas with Laura Castelli (Member of Parliament); Antonio Misiani (Senator); Filomena Maggino (“Benessere Italia” Committee, Presidency of the Council); Nicoletta Batini (economist, FMI); Giovanni Dosi and Andrea Roventini (Sant'Anna School Professor of Economics and the coordinators of GROWINPRO project); Roberto Buizza (Sant’Anna School Professor of Physics and the coordinator of 3CSA research centre).
In his presentation on the ideal target of global carbon dioxide emissions to reach net zero by 2050, Lord Adair Turner will focus on Europe facing energy-related challenges and the macro-economic impacts of the low carbon transition. “It is clear that zero emissions from energy use and industry can be achieved at low cost but building a zero-carbon economy will require massive investment in power production, new industrial plants and efficient equipment. By 2050, energy-related carbon emissions must be reduced by 70% from 2010 levels; failing that, warming will rise significantly.To design the needed revolution in energy systems requires input from many different players – governments, companies, new technology challengers and investors”.
