THE SECOND EDITION OF THE MASTER’S IN PHOTONIC INTEGRATED CIRCUITS – PIXNET – COORDINATED BY THE SANT’ANNA SCHOOL, HAS JUST STARTED, WITH MORE THAN €1 MILLION-WORTH OF SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR THE 30 SELECTED STUDENTS
Over one million euros in total funding, 30 students from 15 different countries, 4 partner institutions and 20 research centres. These are the increasing numbers of the second intake of the Master in Photonic Integrated Circuits, Sensors and Networks (PIXnet) offered by an international consortium of prestigious universities (Aston University, Osaka University, Technische Universitait Eindhoven) and coordinated by the Sant’Anna School.
As a strategic Programme at international level, the Master Pixnet belongs to the Erasmus+, Key Action 1, and is designed to ensure that all students are exposed to the key topics in photonics, including metamaterials, microfabrication and nano-photonics in a dynamic and international study environment.
The academic year 2019/2020 will be even richer in activities. 18 students have just started their work with a team of researchers at the Sant'Anna School TECIP Institute - Communication, Information and Perception Technologies, under the supervision of Professor Piero Castoldi, acting as PIXNet project coordinator. 11 more students are working at the UK Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AIPT), which is a worldwide renowned excellence centre in the photonic technologies field.
In addition to the new selected students of the second intake 2019/2021, over 20 students of the previous intake have successfully completed their first training year and they are now pursuing their studies at one of the prestigious universities of the consortium (Aston University, Osaka University, Technische Universitait Eindhoven and Sant’Anna School).
Pixnet is an international programme that is totally funded by the EU with more than €3 million. The Master’s consists of a high-level and very competitive study offer, in order to provide skills and research opportunities in the field of photonic integrated circuits. This is done through the use of classes, software simulations and laboratory sessions, as well as the development of finalised prototypes.
Sant'Anna School boasts the most dedicated team of researchers at the INPHOTEC foundation, a leading research centre for advanced photonics of the TECIP Institute.
