The Institute of Economics will hold a meeting of its Seminar Series on Tuesday, April 24, 2018: Anna Rosso, from the University of Milan, will present his researches on "Innovative Events"

Abstract: Policymakers need to understand innovation in high-profile sectors like technology. This can be surprisingly hard to observe. We combine UK administrative microdata, media and website content to develop experimental measures of firm innovation – new product/service launches – that complement existing metrics. We then explore the innovative performance of technology sector SMEs – firms also of great policy interest – using panel fixed effects settings, comparing conventional and machine-learning-based definitions of industry space. For companies with event coverage, tech SMEs are substantially more launch-active than non-tech firms, with suggestive evidence of firm-city interactions. We use instruments and reweighting to handle underlying event exposure probabilities.

ROBOTICS IN PISA: SANT'ANNA SCHOOL BIOROBOTICS INSTITUTE RESEARCHERS DEMONSTRATE A LEADING ROLE AT THE PALAZZO BLU SYMPOSIUM

The human face of robotics: the notion of human-computer interaction gives us all the information about the research activity conducted at the Biorobotics Institute of Sant’Anna School. In Pisa, researchers at the Biorobotics Institute have worked to develop technologies for social robotics in education, health care and rehabilitation, brain-computer interface, neuroprosthetics and cognitive therapy.

Sant’Anna School continues to demonstrate a leading role at the Palazzo Blu "Pisa and Robotics" Symposium, the meeting held on April 4, with a focus on higher education providing a network for academics and medical specialists to share knowledge on neuroengineering and robotics in medical applications.

Key-speakers include: Professor Paolo Dario, who founded the Biorobotics Institute, Professor Arianna Menciassi and Dr. Alberto Mazzoni.
