Required application documents and information (see Annex):

  • motivation letter (3 pages maximum) reporting: (i) motivation to pursue a PhD in BioRobotics; (ii) possible research objectives; (iii) possible research activities (please use the template)
  • Curriculum vitae et studiorum
  • academic transcripts of examinations passed in degree courses, for both bachelor’s and master’s degrees
  • only for candidates who have obtained their qualification abroad: translated copy of the University master’s degree certificate
  • copy of the master’s degree thesis (or an abstract of at least 5 pages, with a copy of the cover page)
  • copy of any other appropriate qualification they deem appropriate (e.g., publications)
  • two reference contacts (name, surname and institutional e-mail address)
  • indication of up to three research lines of interest.

Number of positions available

n. 22 positions with scholarship funded as described below:

  • n.1 scholarship related to the activities of the Department of Excellence in Robotics & AI
  • n. 2 scholarships related to the NRRP Project of Research Infrastructure Biorobotics Research and Innovation Engineering Facilities (BRIEF, CUP: J13C22000400007)
  • n. 6 scholarships funded by Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna and BioRobotics Institute
  • n. 2  scholarships funded by Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia as below detailed:

    1 “NRRP Ph.D. Scholarship” funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) Mission 4, Component 2, Investment 3.3, in compliance with Ministerial Decree n. 117/2023, “Introduction of innovative doctorates that respond to the innovation needs of businesses and promote the recruitment of researchers from businesses” co-funded by MEDICA SpA and focusing on the research theme “Development of spectral sensors for analysis of physiological parameters and markers."
    1 “NRRP Ph.D. Scholarship” funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) Mission 4, Component 2, Investment 3.3, in compliance with Ministerial Decree n. 117/2023, “Introduction of innovative doctorates that respond to the innovation needs of businesses and promote the recruitment of researchers from businesses” co-funded by The Italian Aerospace Research Center - CIRA  -  and focusing on the research theme “Study, development and experimentation of werable technologies for research activities in space applicartion".

Based on specific agreements with individual companies, additional scholarships funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), Mission 4, Component 2, Investment 3.3, in compliance with Ministerial Decree n. 117/2023 – “Introduction of innovative doctorates that respond to the innovation needs of businesses and promote the recruitment of researchers from businesses” may become available.

Further positions may be activated on the basis of additional financial resources, for specific agreements or for apprenticeship contract. Moreover, additional scholarships may be available in the framework of the following projects funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU:
