Scholarships

To foster diversity within the programmes, the Scuola and UNITAR may award partial scholarships to talented students in need of financial aid based on merit, distinctive competencies and academic excellence. Scholarships are subjected to availability of funds and the number of scholarships is very limited.

Every selection round, the Scuola and UNITAR may award up to three fee reductions of 30% to candidates coming from Least Developed Countries (LDCs, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Least_Developed_Countries) that are in need of financial aid and that reach at least 85 points out of 100 in the selection process. In case of equal results, priority will be given to female candidates.

The Scuola and partners may provide further assistance in the search for funding opportunities.

Creative Associate International’s Charito Kruvant Scholarship for Electoral Excellence

Creative Associate International's Charito Kruvant Schoolarschip for Electoral Excellence is an annual scholarship award granted to two female students of the Master in Electoral Policy and Administration (MEPA) on-line program of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna. Each year, Creative Associates International (Creative) will award each of the two students with a 5,000 EUR scholarship to cover one-half of the full tuition costs of the program. Students may also be eligible for other support directly from the program. The current award calendar is for three years with the first awards scheduled for April 2019 and October 2019.

Eligible applicants are those who are:

  1. Female;
  2. Accepted into the MEPA program; and
  3. Resident in a Least Developed Country (LDC).

Preference will be given to women who are (1) dedicated to promoting women in executive electoral administration positions and/or (2) currently employed with an Electoral Management Body. Points earned in the MEPA selection process will also be considered. Women engaged with civil society organizations may also apply.

To apply, applicants must first write a one-page cover letter and provide a curriculum vitae outlining their eligibility and qualifications. Second, they are required to write a 1,000-word essay on what they see as the major challenge in electoral administration in their country, and how they would go about meeting this challenge and improving the conduct of elections. Challenges can be administrative, legal, security, or political in nature. Applicants will be judged on the incisiveness of the description of the challenge(s), and the innovative quality of the solutions that they proposed.

The female staff of Creative’s Electoral Education and Integrity (EEI) Practice Area will judge the essays and make selection recommendations.

With their successful graduation from MEPA, students in the Scholarship program will write a blog posting on Creative’s web site about their experience in the MEPA program and how it has supported them in their career objectives. Graduates will also be encouraged to liaise with other alumni, particularly other women in the Scholarship program.
