International Day of Health and Safety at Work

International Day of Health and Safety at Work

Every year, on 28 April, International Day for Health and Safety at Work is celebrated, a moment to reflect on the importance of a safe and healthy working environment for all. Established in 2003 by the International Labor Organization (ILO), this day represents an opportunity to raise awareness among governments, employers and workers about the risks present in the workplace and the measures to be taken to prevent them.

The theme for 2024 is "Safety and health at work: Social dialogue and culture of prevention". The objective is to promote dialogue and collaboration between all the actors involved in the world of work to build a culture of prevention that places the safety and health of workers at the centre.

Why is this day important?

Every year, millions of workplace accidents and occupational diseases occur around the world, causing death, disability and suffering. Italy, unfortunately, is not immune to this problem. In 2022, there were 1,239 fatal workplace injuries, an increase of 10.5% compared to 2021.

International Day for Health and Safety at Work is an important moment to remember that the safety and health of workers are a fundamental right. Citizens, governments, employers and workers, we have a responsibility to work to improve the situation and create a safer and healthier world of work for all.
