Telecommunications solutions and prototype need to be studied at the theoretical level and then validated through experimental demonstrations. The research units possess unique competences to carry on such investigations at the system level both for classical optical fiber systems and innovative optical wireless (free space) systems. The competence covers novel design of systems based on new modulation formats, advanced transmitter and receivers for both fiber-based and optical wireless systems. In addition, the research unit possess the competences for developing advanced networking protocols and architectures for 5G/6G, elastic optical networks, cloud computing and the relevant management and control techniques. The main applications of the developed solutions involve the following domains: Space, Defense, and the following vertical applications: automotive, medicine, distributed processing.
