SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production

SDG 12

Sustainable Development Goal 12 aims to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. This ambitious goal recognizes that current consumption and production patterns are causing significant environmental damage, with negative consequences for climate, biodiversity, and human health.

To achieve this goal, specific targets have been set, including:

  • By 2030, reduce significantly global food waste per capita at the retail and consumer levels and food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses.
  • By 2030, halve the global per capita waste generation.
  • By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation and encourage recycling and reuse.
  • Implement the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production patterns.
  • Take global action to encourage responsible consumption of natural resources.
  • Manage and handle chemicals and all types of waste in a way that minimizes their negative impact on the environment.
  • Support developing countries to strengthen their national capacities for sustainable consumption and production.
  • Promote public procurement practices that promote sustainability.
