SDG 2: Zero Hunger

Fame Zero

Sustainable Development Goal number 2 (SDG 2) aims to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. This goal is fundamental to ensuring a healthy and prosperous future for all.

Hunger and malnutrition remain major global challenges today. Around 690 million people, or nearly 10% of the world's population, suffer chronic hunger. Additionally, 2 billion people suffer from micronutrient deficiencies, which can lead to serious health problems.

SDG 2 includes several specific targets, including:

  • End hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations, including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round.
  • Eliminate all forms of malnutrition, including achieving the targets of stunting and wasting in children under 5 years of age and eliminate anemia in women of reproductive age and adolescent girls.
  • Double the agricultural productivity and systems of sustainable food production.
  • Adopt sustainable agricultural practices that increase productivity and resilience to climate change and extreme weather events.
  • Reduce significantly food loss along the production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses.

Achieving SDG 2 will require a global effort to transform food and agricultural systems. It is necessary to invest in sustainable agriculture, promote innovative agricultural practices, and strengthen the resilience of food systems to climate change.

Everyone can play a role in achieving SDG 2 by making informed food choices, reducing food waste, and supporting organizations working to combat hunger and malnutrition.
