Bio
Andrea is an Assistant Professor in tenure-track (RTT) of Comparative Private Law at the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies (Pisa, Italy).
Previously, he was an Assistant Professor of Health Law at the Health, Ethics and Society (HES) department of the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML) at Maastricht University (UM). Also at UM, he was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute for Transnational Legal Research (METRO) of the Faculty of Law, where he implemented his EU-funded MSCA individual fellowship "FullCompensation" (Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 101028723).
From 2020 to 2024, Andrea was also an Adjunct Professor of ‘Markets, regulations and law’ at the Luiss Guido Carli University (Rome, Italy). He taught graduate management students from all over the world about EU market regulations and competition law.
He obtained his PhD in Law from the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies (Pisa, Italy) in 2019, with a thesis on "Civil Liability and Regulation in the European Market of Unauthorized Uses of Medicines". Based on his doctoral thesis, he authored the research monograph 'The Law of Off-label Uses of Medicines: Regulation and Litigation in the EU, UK and USA', published by Routledge in 2022 (https://www.routledge.com/The-Law-of-Off-label-Uses-of-Medicines-Regulation-and-Litigation-in-the/Parziale/p/book/9781032078984).
During his doctoral program, he conducted research at the Ecole Normale Superieure and the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (Paris, France). He also strengthened his research skills in law, health and policy at the World Health Organization's European Office for Investment for Health and Development (Venice, Italy). In parallel to his research activity, Andrea collaborated with law firms in Milan and Rome.
He speaks Italian, English, and French.
Research
His main research interests include:
1. Civil liability, particularly medical and product liability and the law of damages.
2. Law & health, particularly pharmaceutical and clinical trial regulation, as well as the data protection law implications of health and genetic data sharing for research, which he researched and translated into actual policies for a biobank as a post doc researcher at Eurac Research (Bolzano / Bozen, Italy).
He deepens and disseminates his research results via scientific publications, presentations at international conferences and advocacy initiatives.
