Bio

Matteo Colorio is a PhD candidate in International Law (PhD Programme in Human Rights, Global Politics and Sustainability) at Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, Italy. His areas of interest include International Criminal Law, International Humanitarian Law, and International Human Rights Law. His research focuses on frameworks for coordinating international, regional, and domestic accountability efforts for international crimes, including prosecutions relying on universal jurisdiction.

Matteo holds a Law Degree (LLB + LLM) summa cum laude from the University of Trento where he graduated with a thesis titled "The Aut Dedere Aut Judicare System: Re-Enforcing Domestic Prosecutions in a Future Crimes Against Humanity Convention". Matteo also obtained an LL.M. with certificates in International Law and Business and Corporate Law from Washington University in St. Louis. 

Before his Ph.D., Matteo worked as a research assistant for the Crimes Against Humanity Project at Whitney R. Harris World Law Institute and as a legal intern at the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. He served as a legal trainee in the Court of Appeals of Rome, Criminal Division. Most recently, Matteo worked as a legal consultant for the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights.
