The challenge of climate change': Tuesday 23 July, in the Sala Gronchi at Cascine Vecchie di San Rossore, as part of the Viviparco event, a dialogue is scheduled with Professor Roberto Buizza, professor at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, international scientist and expert in atmospheric physics and meteorology, coordinator of the centre on climate change and sustainable development.
Climate change is a scientifically documented reality: the greenhouse effect and the continuous increase in carbon dioxide emissions are causing global warming with harmful effects on the planet. More frequent and intense heat waves, droughts alternating with concentrated and dangerous rainfall for the hydro-geological structure, and dwindling water reserves are just some of the tangible consequences. Professor Buizza will illustrate the current situation and discuss the role of parks and possible ways to avoid irreversible changes.

Roberto Buizza graduated in physics from the University of Milan, obtained a PhD in mathematics fromUniversity College London, and an MBA from the London Business School. After 4 years at the Centre for Thermal and Nuclear Research of theNational Electricity Board, in 1991 he started working for theEuropean Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, making a fundamental contribution to the development of forecasting systems, in the role of head of the ‘Predictability’ division and as ‘Lead Scientist. He is an Honorary Research Fellow at The Grantham Institute for Climate Change at Imperial College London and Scientific Attaché at the Italian Embassy in London.

ViviParco, made possible thanks to the contribution of the Fondazione Pisa and the Region of Tuscany, is a cultural event that revolves around environmental themes, to think about a new balance between man and nature, in a Park where these two components have influenced each other for centuries.
