Promotion and protection of Human Rights: new ENTRi (Europe’s New Training Initative for Civilian Crisis Management) training course taught by Sant’Anna School faculty in Ethiopia
Academics from Sant’Anna School returned to Ethiopia in early February continuing the training partnership “to strengthen the capacity of all our countries to implement the principles and practices of democracy and respect for human rights” that has grown over the past three years.
The course will be taught by Sant’Anna School faculty supported by a visiting team of international experts covering the “International Standards for the Protection of Individuals and Groups: A Training Course for Field Officers Working on Human Rights”, until February 24, 2017 in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia). Guest speakers include: Giuseppe Mistretta, Italian ambassador in Addis Ababa, and Ranieri Sabatucci, Head of the EU Delegation to the African Union.
The course is funded by European Commission (“Europe’s New Training Initative for Civilian Crisis Management”) project and directed by Professor Andrea de Guttry, director of Sant’Anna School Dirpolis (Law, Politics, Development) Institute. The course has been part of the ENTRi programme, linking the School of Law - University of Addis Ababa with the CMC Finland and 13 European partners.
The course has the objective of contributing to effectively training individuals and groups engaged in human rights protection. It promotes a comprehensive approach to peace operations and rules of law and it fosters training cooperation and coordination at European and international level for organisations such as the European Union (CSDP missions), the United Nations (UN), and the African Union (AU).
Professor Andrea de Guttry, the course scientific coordinator, said: “This is a training program specifically designed. It is dedicated to promoting justice and respect for human rights through the rule of law. Sant’Anna School regularly provides expert training and improves implementation of human rights protections through education. This course aims to contribute to the policy debate in Ethiopia and there is growing recognition of the importance of Sant’Anna School scientific activities in the understanding of human rights education as a lifelong process that builds knowledge and attitudes towards respect for human dignity”.
