SOCIAL MOBILITY AND MERIT: “CONSENSUS CONFERENCE” ON FRIDAY 3 MARCH IN ROME SHOWS RESULTS OF SANT’ANNA SCHOOL PROJECT FUNDED BY MIUR MINISTRY
“Obiettivo mobilità sociale: sostenere il merito per creare valore nel sistema Paese” conference will be held in Rome on Friday 3 March at the MIUR Ministry of Education, University and Research (2.45 pm, room Comunicazione) at the presence of Minister Valeria Fedeli, to present Sant’Anna School “Social Mobility and Merit” project results. 290 high school students, whose parents did not receive higher education attending university, were chosen in Campania, Lombardia, Sardegna, Sicilia, and Toscana to participate in the survey. On this occasion, the volume “Obiettivo Mobilità Sociale” (Il Mulino), as a direct result of the project data-gathering, will be officially launched.
Education is a central issue for social mobility, as it is the education system which is supposed to prepare young talented and highly skilled people with the knowledge they need to secure successful futures as professionals and citizens, and to delineate merit via the attainment of education credentials. For these reasons, education is often seen as a driver of social mobility.
Speakers at the “Consensus conference” include: Rosa De Pasquale (Head of Department at MIUR), Pierdomenico Perata (Rector of Sant’Anna School), Vincenzo Barone (Director of Scuola Normale Superiore), and Michele Di Francesco (Rector of University Institution Iuss Pavia).
At 3.00 pm, Sant’Anna School students, who have served as tutors to high school students involved in the project, will describe the project’s goals, techniques and results achieved; and then Sabina Nuti (project scientific coordinator) will give a speech on “Come trasformare la mobilità sociale in un’opportunità per il sistema Paese: le proposte per il futuro”.
Participants include: Giovanni Brugnoli (vice president, Confindustria – Human Capital), Giovanna Boda (Head of Department, Office of Equal Opportunity, Presidenza del Consiglio dei ministri), Innocenzo Cipolletta (vice president, Assonime), Ivano Dionigi (president, consorzio Alma Laurea), Catia Tomasetti (president, Acea), and Francesco Mantovani (expert, “The European House Ambrosetti”).
At 4.30, Minister Valeria Fedeli will give her closing remarks to the “Consensus Conference”.
