Medical students can achieve greater learning outcomes through technology-enhanced learning programs offered by University of PaviaUniversity of Pisa, Sant’Anna School and Scuola IUSS Pavia. The MEETMedicine Enhanced by Engineering Technologies” program is offered this year as additional part of the medical students training process with an outstanding science education and clinical expertise.

In developing the medical curriculum, MEET will identify the new technology skills and competencies of highly proficient physicians. Student doctors will further enhance clinical skills with telemedicine, robotics surgery, AI, big data & deep learning resources, prosthetics, 3D printing and wearable sensors. Student doctors will need to explore their increasing levels of engagement across patient satisfaction, medical professional ethics, and economic sustainability.

University of PaviaUniversity of Pisa, Sant’Anna School and Scuola IUSS Pavia have joined the partnership to ensure the added value of technology-enhanced learning for health care education. These new Technology-enhanced Curricula are designed to support, diagnose, treat patients (an ageing population with chronic conditions) and solve different healthcare needs. AI and robotics will enhance current healthcare services to deliver better treatment plans, guidance and support for a healthy lifestyle.

Lecture-based MEET courses will be held in Pavia and Pisa. They are taught by highly qualified faculty members from the University of PaviaUniversity of Pisa, Sant’Anna School and Scuola IUSS Pavia. A number of classes will be taught online. The MEET student doctors will gain 60 extra (additional) credits contributing to a Master’s (second level) degree program requirement jointly offered by the four universities. The MEET partnership between the University of PaviaUniversity of Pisa, Sant’Anna School and Scuola IUSS Pavia allows the program to recruit outstanding students selected for one of the best specialty program in the nation.

“We are happy to announce the new MEET curriculum – said Rector Francesco Svelto (University of Pavia). This Engineering-enhanced learning program is giving access to effective ongoing training that fully integrates medicine and the use of technology within higher education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels for the delivery of high quality health and care service.”

“The technology-enhanced learning for health care education remains challenging. Our partnership wants to support widespread implementation of robotics and AI resources. We need reliable and multidisciplinary mechanisms upon which to build effective future technology-enhanced health care programs and professionals - said Rector Paolo Mancarella (University of Pisa).”

“We want to support high achieving students in attaining greater learning outcomes – said Rector Sabina Nuti (Sant’Anna School). We aim to create innovative learning environments for doctors who are able to interact in a fast-changing field, share knowledge and understand decision making safely in clinical and nonclinical environments.”

“There is no doubt that clinical decision making, innovation and ethics in technology can significantly impact in quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of health care – said Rector Riccardo Pietrabissa (IUSS Pavia). We aim to develop, adopt, and implement the use of technology as an ideal approach to improve health care decision-making. With students coming from medical school, bio-engineering, healthcare management and bio-ethics backgrounds, this master’s course serves as a platform that faculty can build upon.”
