Appplications for the Second-Level Master’s degree in Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine "PierGiorgio Data" will be accepetd until 31 March 2020. The Master Program in Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine jointly organized by the National Research Council Institute of Clinical Physiology - Pisa and directed by Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Vincenzo Lionetti, from Sant’Anna School Institute of Life Sciences, has been regarded as the highest level recognized qualification in Europe for hyperbaric medicine since 2010.

Beginning on 20th April, the 2020 Master's course provide the theoretical and practical basis for underwater activities according to the the European guidelines "Training standards for diving and hyperbaric medicine", developed by the Joint Medical Subcommittee of the European Committee for Hyperbaric Medicine (ECHM) and the European Diving Technology Committee (EDTC). Students doctors receiving this master’s course certificate should demonstrate sufficient knowledge according to the scope of the course assessed by the DMAC (Diving Medical Advisory Committee e EDTCmed - European Diving Technology Committee – medical assessment of working divers) for Level 1 Medical assessment of divers (Medical Examiner of Divers) and Level 2D Medical management of diving accidents and illnesses (Diving Medicine Physician).

Accreditation by DMAC/EDTCmed aims to improve the competence of doctors on which the diving industry relies. The hours of training and the content of the training programs would need to satisfy the diving industry perspective also in compliance with the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) requirements.

As a leading trade association representing the vast majority of contractors and supply chain in the offshore marine construction industry worldwide, IMCA published leading standards of technical and operating guidance in key areas of safety, quality, and offshore performance.

In addition, the Master’s degree in Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine "PierGiorgio Data" is recognized as a level IIH course of hyperbaric medicine, the highest recognized levels of qualification in the field of Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine in Europe in compliance with the standards of the European College of Baromedicine (ECB), a medical speciality organisation set up to establish and maintain reciprocal recognition of qualifications in the Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine fields between the academic and training institutions in Europe.
