Open Science

Open Science is a global movement for open access to scientific knowledge and expertise as a common good, based on the principles of transparency, inclusion, equity and sharing.  Open Science is a strategic goal for the European Commission that offers the possibility to improve the quality, impact and benefits of science through sharing and cooperation. The latest EC Framework Programmes for Research and Innovation propose Open Access as a standard way of disseminating research products.

The School adheres to the Declaration of Messina in support of open access to academic literature and promotes the dissemination of research results produced in the University, to ensure the widest possible dissemination (c. 2 art.37, Statute of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna).

To pursue these principles, the School moves in several directions:

• the Regulation on open access to scientific literature and research data (open data) establishes the policies for the implementation of open access to literature and research data;
• the Institutional Research Repository, interoperable with ministerial and community infrastructures, guarantees the deposit and long-term preservation of documents;
• the University Commission for Open Science identifies and implements strategies for the promotion of Open policies, follows the relationships with external bodies promoting open science and proposes integrations to the internal evaluation systems.

Moreover, the School ensures continuous training to all its components, in line with the evolution of European strategies and in collaboration with ICDI (Italian Computing and Data Infrastructure) and APRE (Agency for the Promotion of European Research).
