The workshop titled “Un altro genere di leadership?” which will be held on Tuesday, October 3, is hosted by the University of Florence (Polo di Scienze Sociali di Novoli, Firenze - aula tesi, palazzina D15) in cooperation with the CrossThink-Lab of Florence. Sant’Anna School Political Philosophy Faculty Members will participate in the forum for discussing work in progress by political philosophers, policy makers and business professionals.

After researching many references on leadership effectiveness and gender, we can say gender plays a pivotal role in corporate performance and that there is still ample opportunity for research and work from within to drive change in organizations. On a global scale, we daily face legislative challenges and we need toolkits for leaders to operate confidently in global economies. Encouraging best practice leadership programs should be a policy priority to drive economic growth since recent international research still indicates companies have a long way to go to ensure gender diversity in leadership positions. To tackle the gender diversity challenge, companies and policy makers will need to put in place initiatives that help to create success and reduce unemployment across generations.

The workshop on October 3 in Florence will bring together academics, finance and business professionals. It aims to raise awareness and to support progress in the workplace assessing leadership development improvements and performance.

The first panel will address the impact of the Law 120/2011 Golfo-Mosca which committed to including a target number of female candidates on corporate boards. Promoting increased women’s leadership and gender equality is a development issue, a fundamental principle of democratic governance and also a moral obligation that universities, policy makers and business professionals will continue to address.

The second panel will focus on latest gender diversity reports which show that women board members tend to bring different and incisive perspectives on current issues. Implicit in this view is that companies should be inclusive, reflecting the diversity of the society. Using a gender quota seems an effective way to attract talented professionals and to close a gender gap.

The program will cover the following:
