The European project "LeADS- Legality attentive data scientists" of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, in collaboration with and as part of the Internet Festival 2024 in Pisa, is organizing an Innovation Challenge on the topic of the AI Act (EU Regulation 2024/1689), the new regulation on Artificial Intelligence recently adopted by the European Parliament, entitled "AI Act Compass: Navigating Requirements for High-Risk AI Systems".

How to participate

The initiative is aimed at young creative teams, with expertise in law and Artificial Intelligence, who want to get involved and come up with a solution that supports developers and users of AI systems to navigate the AI Act's risk classification system and understand what obligations affect them.

It is possible to participate only in teams of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 people between the ages of 18 and 28. To register, it is necessary to fill out this form by September 6, 2024 at 11 pm. Registration must be in accordance with the attached regulation. The language used will be English.

The 7 eligible teams will be notified by email by September 12, 2024.

The stages of the competition and prizes

The competition is divided into two phases: a first offline phase (from Sept. 16 to Oct. 6, 2024) in which teams will receive instructions for the development of a mock-up, and a second in-person, on October 10, 2024, in Pisa, the Challenge that will focus on adapting the solution to a concrete scenario. Reimbursement of up to €600 per team for travel expenses is provided.

A jury will evaluate the teams after the in-person phase, considering the artifact (innovative, reliable, usable, efficient), the result (useful and legally accurate) and the presentation (well-structured, explanatory and engaging). There are five prizes: €2,500 for first place, €1,500 for second place, €1,000 for third place, and two special prizes of €500 for the best presentation and the most innovative solution.

All information in detail is available on the Lider LAB website and in the attached regulations.
