Sergio Bolasco and Giovanni De Gasperis have become official affiliates of EMbeDS in November 2020.

Sergio Bolasco is an full Professor of Statistics in the Faculty of Economics of the University of Rome "La Sapienza". He belongs to the MEMOTEF Department where, after retiring in March 2012, he continued holding courses until 2015. He graduated in Statistics and Demographic Sciences (1971) from "La Sapienza" with a thesis on the Application of Multidimensional Statistical Methods to Large Data Matrices

Since 1993 he has been a member of the international scientific committee of the JADT (Journées internationales d'Analyse statistique des Données Textuelles), and organized the third and the tenth editions of its conference (JADT1995, JADT2010) in Rome.

Over the past twenty years Sergio has promoted, participated in and directed funded research of national and international interest on Data Analysis and Text Mining -- with a particular focus on multidimensional exploratory techniques and automatic text analysis. In 2002-04 he coordinated the Italian operational unit of the European project NEMIS (Network of Excellence in Text Mining and its Applications in Statistics).

In 2000 he created the TaLTaC software platform (www.taltac.com) for automatic text analysis and text mining, which was distributed in the T1 (2000-2005) and T2 (2006-2010) versions, and currently in the T4 (2019-2020) version. The latter is specifically oriented towards Big Data applications and was developed with web technology in collaboration with the University of L'Aquila.

Sergio spent various periods of study and research abroad at the Universities of Paris, Montpellier and Lille in France, Dubrovnic in Yugoslavia and Trier in Germany. He held seminars and summer schools in Besançon, Leon, Lille, Montreal, Paris, Toulouse, and in many italian universities (Bologna, Florence, Naples, Padua, Pisa, Rome2, Rome3, Salerno, Turin).

Giovanni De Gasperis is an Assistant Professor of Cognitive Robotics at the Department of Information Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics of the University of L'Aquila since October 2007. He graduated in Electronics Engineering (1991) from the University of L’Aquila, with a thesis on the Application of Neural Networks in Automatic Control. From 1995 to 1998 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the MD Anderson Cancer Center of the University of Texas. From 2016 to 2020, he taught “Text Mining with Python” in the 2nd level Master “Big Data, Statistical Methods for the Knowledge Society " of the University of Rome" La Sapienza ".

Since its foundation in 2018, He is a member of the CINI National Laboratory in Intelligent Systems and Artificial Intelligence since its inception in 2018, and a member of the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AIxIA) since 2008. Since 2010 he is also a member of the TaLTaC development team together with Sergio Bolasco at University of Rome, “La Sapienza”.

Giovanni spent various periods of study and research abroad at the University of Texas (Houston, USA), the University of Westminster (London, UK), the University of Salamanca (ES), the University of Georgia (Tblisi, GE), the European Research Center for Virtual Reality (CERV; Brest, FR), and the University of Queensland (Brisbane, AU).
