The seminar "Human and Robot biomechatronics: tripping, learning and sleeping", led by Arturo-Forner Cornero, Associate Professor at the University of São Paulo, takes place on Thursday, January 9th at The BioRobotics Institute of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna.

ABSTRACT

The seminar will review different aspects of human motor control, with a focus on gait control and coincident timing tasks.
The translation of control mechanisms from human to robot and back will be discussed, considering biologically plausible biped stability controllers in the context of Central Pattern Generators and supraspinal gait control mechanisms. Finally, the seminar will see some sleep-related issues that affect human motor control.

SPEAKER

Arturo Forner-Cordero is Associate Professor at the Mechatronics Engineering Department of the Escola Politécnica of the University of São Paulo and head of the Biomechatronics Laboratory. Prof. Forner-Cordero research involves Biorobotics, Biomechatronics, Motor Control and Sleep Deprivation with national and international funding resulting in more than 100 contributions in journals, full conference papers and book chapters.
He is currently Chair of the IEEE EMBS TC of Biorobotics and Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Medical Robotics and Bionics, the IEEE EMBS Journal of Translational Engineering in Health and Medicine and the IEEE Latin-American Transactions.
