PON Standard and Coherent Technologies for 100 Gb/s Optical Access
The TeCIP Institute will hold the seminar by Mr. Satoshi Yoshima, expert of optical access systems, on September 27, 2019: Blue Room, 11:00 a.m.
In this presentation, recent progress of PON (Passive Optical Network) standard in ITU-T and IEEE is briefly introduced, and technical challenges for 100 Gb/s optical access are shown. PON standards more than 10 Gb/s/λ using IM/DD are being discussed. However, it is difficult for IM/DD-based 100 Gb/s/λ PON systems to meet a high loss budget more than 29 dB. Digital coherent is preferable, but reducing power consumption of DSP is one of the technical challenges for coherent access systems. Our proposed AEQ (Adaptive Equalizer) and CPR (Carrier Phase Recovery) reduced the number of multiplications by 40 % with only a 0.3 dB sensitivity penalty after 80 km transmission.
